The title for this evening's update is a quote taken from one of the people whom I support - said on Xmas Eve. Absolute Genius.
I for one will not be sad to see the back of Xmas. Not that I'm a 'Scrooge' or anything. The holiday doesn't hold much meaning for me, I mean, it's nice to spend a little time with the family, but I spend a fair bit of time with them anyway.
There is no Religious meaning there for me, I am after all, an Atheist. To be honest, I don't think Religion really plays much of a part for many people any more. Most people my age in Britain aren't believers, some of the older generation claim to believe in God, but very few actually practice their faith. In my opinion there will be no Christians left over here within 100 years, very few anyway.
The Xmas advertisements started here in early October, almost a full 3 months before the holidays. Ridiculous. The whole commercial side of the season really gets under my skin, companies put pressure on people to buy bigger and buy better. With the economy as it is and so many people really feeling the pinch, it is somewhat unfair.
I went to a certain big chain Supermarket the other day... People seem to think that Xmas is the beginning of the Apocalypse I believe, although I never saw any Horsemen in the Car park. People buying 15 pints of Milk and 7 loaves of Bread... The shops only shut for a Day!!! Calm the f**k down!!!
Bah! I'm so glad it's all done with for this year. No doubt the Decorations will be out again by August though.
New Year is the bigger thing for me. The atmosphere on New Year's Eve is always fantastic and as I have tended to for the last few years, I will be spending it in my Hometown of Garstang where I can be surrounded by hundreds of people that I know. I will not be venturing into one of the bigger Cities to be surrounded by Students and Chavs. What a tremendous night it shall be. =)
I'm off to spend a little bit of quality time with the Xbox now. Catch you later. xx
